Therapy

Psychotherapy for adults

Most of the people I work with are functioning. They are succeeding at work, holding the household together, showing up but feeling disconnected from themselves and their values. Therapy is the beginning of coming back to what matters most.

Who I work with

The harder transitions of adult life

I see adults navigating:

  • Grief and bereavement
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Perfectionism
  • Depression
  • Burnout
  • Moving between countries
  • Career change
  • Relationships
  • Parenthood
  • Retirement

If you are not sure whether your situation is "serious enough" for therapy — that question is itself worth bringing.

How I work

Modalities, matched to the person

EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

A structured approach for processing distressing memories and the beliefs that have grown up around them. Often used for single-incident trauma, complex trauma, and grief.

ACT — Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

A mindfulness-based approach focused on clarifying what matters to you and building a life around it — even alongside difficult thoughts and feelings.

MBCT — Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Originally developed at Oxford for recurrent depression. A structured programme combining cognitive therapy and mindfulness practice. I completed teacher training at Oxford in 2021.

CBT — Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

A structured, time-limited approach to changing the thoughts, behaviours, and patterns that maintain difficulty. I am a member of the BABCP (#170506).

PGDT — Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy

A 16-session manualised therapy developed at Columbia for grief that has become stuck or disabling. Learn more about PGDT →

Integrative practice

I match the method to the person, not the other way round. Many courses of therapy draw on more than one of the above.

First session

A working conversation

A first session is a working conversation. We will go over what brings you here now, what you have already tried, what you hope therapy will help you do, and how I work. By the end you should have a clearer sense of whether we are a good fit. Most people who come to me have already done some thinking; few arrive without any idea of what they want to change.
